Radiographer and Allied Health Salaries in the Netherlands

Beyond doctors and nurses, the Netherlands faces shortages of physiotherapists, radiographers, sonographers, and operating theatre technicians. This creates strong opportunities for internationally trained allied health professionals.

Radiographers and Imaging Technicians

Salary scale FWG 50–55 applies to most imaging technicians: €38,000–€52,000 gross annually. Senior radiographers and those with specialisations in MRI or CT can reach €55,000–€65,000.

Physiotherapists

Hospital-based physiotherapists earn €34,000–€50,000. Private practice ownership or partnership roles can significantly exceed this. The Netherlands has a strong self-referral physiotherapy market, making private practice viable.

Operating Theatre Technicians (OK-Assistenten)

A critical shortage role. Salaries range €40,000–€58,000 with significant overtime and emergency call supplements. Most hospitals offer relocation packages.

Recognition Process

EU-trained allied health professionals register with the BIG-register (Beroepen in de Individuele Gezondheidszorg). Non-EU professionals may need a competency assessment, which takes 3–8 months. Most Dutch hospitals have HR teams experienced in international recruitment.
